About the Embassy

The Embassy of the Russian Federation is located in the Avenues, one of Harare's oldest districts, built in XIX century. There are plenty of diplomatic missions, stores, restaurants and medical facilities. The Fife Avenue street, where the Embassy was initially situated, is named after Lord Alexander Duff, Duke of Fife, Britain's politician, who was one of the founders of the British South Arica Company that explored the territory of the present-day Zimbabwe in XIX century.

In November 2019, the Zimbabwean Government decided to rename a number of city streets across the country in honour of the Liberation War Heroes and foreign dignitaries, representing countries which supported the People of Zimbabwe in their liberation struggle. The street in Harare, where the Russian Embassy is located now, was renamed after Leonid Brezhnev, leader of the Soviet Union in 1960-80’s.
