On Delivering Russian Food Assistance to Zimbabwe
On March 11 in Harare there was the official ceremony of the handover of the food assistance financed by the Russian Federation for the benefit of the Republic of Zimbabwe within the framework of the Russian contribution to the UN World Food Programme. Over 1000 metric tonnes of food worth 1.5 million USD will be distributed to more than 100 thousand people in Hwange, Nkayi and Zvishavane districts affected by severe drought.
Russian Ambassador H.E. Mr. Nikolai Krasilnikov, Director of Human Resources in the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Mr. Erasmus C.Gapara, WFP Country Representative and Director Mr. Eddie Rowe, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe and media participated in the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, the representatives of the Zimbabwean Government and the UN expressed the sincere gratitude to the Russian Government for the timely support amid the worst hunger crisis in the latest decade.
